The battle for the next generation of NFL players and coaches is on.
Battle football equipment manufacturer BattleSports announced today that it has secured an undisclosed amount of Series A funding to expand its product line to include a line of protective helmet covers.
The company, which also makes protective footwear and helmets for professional athletes and other sports organizations, said it has applied for an undisclosed Series A investment from the New York Stock Exchange.
The new helmet covers will be available to all teams and players starting in 2020, BattleSports said.
The new line of helmets will include a full-face helmet and will include visor inserts that provide additional protection and allow players to wear them for extended periods of time.
BattleSports will sell the helmets directly to players, teams and other partners, with BattleSports serving as the exclusive seller of the products.
“The demand for helmet covers has grown rapidly, and with this funding, we’re making it easier for fans to get the protective gear they need to play the sport of football,” BattleSports CEO and co-founder Jim Dolan said in a statement.
“We’re confident that BattleSports can build on its strong track record and continue to grow the business to become a leader in the sport.”
BattleSports, which is based in St. Louis, Missouri, said the helmet covers have a premium look that matches the look of the football field and the helmet is made from high-grade polycarbonate.
The company has been making helmets for the NFL since the 1980s and is a longtime partner with the league.
The helmet covers are a direct result of a new helmet rule instituted in 2017 that allows players to be charged for wearing protective gear while on the field.
It’s a significant change in the NFL’s policies that allows teams to use the revenue from their players to pay for player health and wellness.
