Watch: Manchester United vs. FC Bayern Munich

Manchester United will have to go into the game with a 1-0 lead in Bayern Munich, but will not have to rely on their midfield to make up the deficit.

The Red Devils will be without their top scorer Christian Pulisic, who will miss the match with a knee injury sustained in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Southampton.

Defender Luke Shaw will also be out with a groin injury.

United are without captain Ashley Young, who was not available for the game due to his mother’s cancer treatment.

United’s midfield is still the bedrock of their attack, however, with Shaw and Schweinsteiger both playing in the team’s 2:1 victory over Southampton.

Shaw is the most consistent of the three players United have brought in, while Schweinze and Pulisics have been excellent in their own right.

The team has scored 14 goals in the Bundesliga this season, with the trio averaging 1.56 goals per game.

United has not scored more than one goal in the Champions League since December 2015, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in a 3-2 win over Fenerbahce.

The German side has won four of their past five matches.

This will be United’s second Champions League game against Bayern.

They defeated the Bundesliga side 3-1 on Dec. 1, 2014.

Bayern Munich is on a three-game winning streak after a 2-0 win over Inter Milan on Saturday, while the Red Devils are 3-0-0 against Bayern Munich this season.
